Independent Samsung Tizen client for Immich

Browse your Immich library from the sofa.

A native-feeling Samsung TV app for albums, photos, videos, Live Photos, and slideshows, designed around the Samsung Smart Remote instead of a desktop web UI.

Immich TV for Samsung is an independent, unofficial Samsung Tizen client for Immich. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Immich, FUTO or Samsung.

Why it exists

Immich deserves a TV experience that feels at home on the TV.

Samsung Tizen users often end up using browser workarounds, casting, or separate streaming devices to show a self-hosted photo library on the biggest screen in the house. This project keeps Immich as the backend and builds a focused, remote-first viewer for Samsung TVs.

Current app foundation

Implemented in the Tizen app today

The core viewing path is already built around real Samsung hardware, bounded media loading, and a read-only connection to an existing Immich server.

Albums and asset grids

Browse Immich albums and open large album grids with windowed rendering and bounded thumbnail retention.

Full-screen viewer

Move through album assets with Left and Right, return with Back, and keep only nearby previews retained.

Video and Live Photos

View video poster stills, play Immich video streams, and trigger Live Photo motion explicitly.

Slideshow mode

Run a still-oriented slideshow with configurable timing, pause/resume, and Smart Remote controls.

Tizen 5.0 target

The build targets Samsung's 2019 Tizen generation and Chromium M63 rather than assuming modern browsers.

Read-only by design

The app focuses on viewing. Uploads, edits, deletes, and administration remain out of scope for now.

Built for Samsung TVs

Not a wrapped desktop website.

01

Remote-first navigation

Directional focus, OK, Back, and Play/Pause are treated as core interaction rules.

02

Physical-device testing

The primary test device is a Samsung QE55Q950R from 2019 running Tizen 5.0.

03

Older hardware matters

The app avoids loading full libraries or full-resolution images into memory just because a desktop can.

Privacy and self-hosting

Your photos stay yours.

The intended architecture is direct communication from your Samsung TV to your own Immich server. Media is not proxied through any other infrastructure.

  • No telemetry or advertising is built into the app.
  • No subscription is currently planned.
  • Your Immich server remains the system of record for media, accounts, and access.
  • Manual API-key setup is used today; a friendlier pairing flow is a future goal.
